Costume

English Country Dances have developed throughout the centuries but this dance form is typically connected with the dances of Jane Austen's period. They are adequately illustrated in movies based on her books, such as "Pride & Prejudice" and "Emma". The whole purpose of Lord Grey's English Country Dance Society is to have fun in a social and relaxing setting. The Society is not a historical society per se and strict rules do not apply. We are free to take liberties with the dress of the times.
Minimum costume for Apple Blossom Ball:
Ladies:  long skirt and blouse; perhaps a cummerbund or long scarf tied around middle as a sash, jabot or cravat.
Gentlemen:  White Shirt, slacks and perhaps a vest or cummerbund or long scarf tied around middle, jabot or cravat (usually white)
(you can create a Jabot with a piece of white or cream muslin type material tied around neck, see website "how to create a Regency costume from Thrift Shop" above, basically a long narrow scarf tied around neck).
